This article explains which lactate models are available in iQO2 to determine the aerobic threshold (AT). AT is defined as the first workload at which there is a sustained increase in blood lactate concentration above resting levels.
Available methods to determine AT based on changes in blood lactate response to progressive exercise.
- Fixed lactate value
- Default set to 2 mmol/l.
- Customizable range: 1.8 – 2.3 mmol/l.
- History: Kindermann 1979: AT = 2mmol / La Fontaine 1981: AT = 2.2mmol
- Baseline Lactate
- Default set to the lowest lactate/performance level of the curve.
- Default set to the lowest lactate/performance level of the curve.
- Baseline lactate + free offset
- Workload preceeding a first rise of 0.5 mmol/l above the baseline lactate.
- Default set to 0.5 mmol/l rise.
- Customizable range: 0.2 – 0.5 mmol/l.
- History: ADAPT 1995: AT = baseline + 0.4mmol.
